Having older step-children can often mean having to tread thin waters…but when you're months into your pregnancy, constantly treading water becomes almost physically impossible…It's natural to struggle with stepkids, especially when trying to make them accept you with open arms. Because oftentimes when someone new enters your life, it can feel disruptive and unfamiliar…but that does not mean they have to take on the role of the evil step-parent. In many cases, if you show a new step-parent interest and acceptance, they will do the same…However, this doesn't mean it'll always be that problem-free. 

This pregnant woman would know, as a new step-mother to two teenage girls! Now, if there were to be a most complex and difficult step-parent dynamic to step into, that would undoubtedly be it! However, these daughters are sweet and tolerable when it comes to their stepmom, but remain far from willing to change every aspect of their daily lives and home to make her feel more comfortable! Alongside their father, who agrees that they shouldn't have to!

The thing is, the couple's bedroom is upstairs, so the constant up-and-down could become a bit of a strain.     Mundane-Topic-8214 How much of the stairs thing is driven by real risk and how much of it is driven by fear? It's not unreasonable to want to do what you can to protect your pregnancy and obviously a fall on the stairs could cause issues, but is it coming from a rational place (ie, you regularly do pass out and fall) or an irrational one (ie you could fall on the stairs)? Why not seek to minimise the risk rather than turning one of the daughters out? So, have what you need downstairs and then on

    HoldFast02 NTA. I wouldn't even call your stepdaughters assholes for their refusal they're teenagers dealing with a baby coming into their home, so I'm willing to cut them some slack here. No, the asshole is your husband. You are pregnant with his child, your pregnancy is high-risk, and you're on your own? He needs to help you find a solution, and pronto. If he won't move one of his daughters out of her room, then he needs to turn the dining room into your bedroom or something like that.

    itsminimes NTA. Move out of the house to place where it's safe for you and your baby. Here you and the baby are at risk and nobody cares. Not your stepdaughters who don't want to be inconvenienced, not your husband and father for your unborn child who won't protect you or the baby. Move back with family that cares. Your life and the baby's life are at risk here.

Your husband is a straight up buffoon, HE'S the dad and can change the rules, at least temporarily. This is all on your husband because those are his daughters and his future baby! Wtf!?     kaoru 1987 NAH (except for the husband for the way he reacted). you're not wrong in asking but for them this is a case of "this baby is not even here yet and it's already taking our space", and if their dad forces them to move it'll strain the relationship with his daughters, who will believe he prioritises new wife and baby over existing kids. I understand you're probably very stressed right now, but I can also see their point and don't think they're wrong.

    Aggressive_Cup8452 This was not something that you needed to ask for. Your husband should have told his daughters that there needs to be some adjustments. Because what is the long term plan here... his daughters get half of everything and you.. your husband and your kid(s) need to manage with the rest? That's not fair to your kids. NtA 16 and 17 year Olds should not be dictating the rules of the house like this.. or is it their house and your husband and you are living with them?
